On June 18th and 19th in the year 1865, Union General Gordon Grainger led his army into Galveston, Texas to take control of the Lone Star State and enforce President Lincoln's executive orders, collectively called the Emancipation Proclamation, which directed that slaves in the Confederate States of America be freed.
